Genesis 11: From Shem to Abram

10 These are the family records of Shem.
From verse 10-26, we get to know the family line of Shem, the middle son of Noah. It tells how old these men were when they fathered sons, and how long they lived to be.

Then verse 26-29 talks about Terah's family line. Terah was also part of Shem's family line. One of Terah's sons, Haran, died while Terah was still alive. Haran left behind his son, Lot. Another of Terah's sons, Abram, had a wife named Sarai, who was barren and had no child.

In verse 31, Terah takes Abram, the fatherless Lot, and the childless Sarai with him, and set out to go the the land of Canaan. On the way, they came to Haran, and settled there instead. Verse 32 says "Terah lived 205 years and died in Haran".
